About Kintrae

What is the meaning behind Kintrae?

Kintrae is a hamlet in the Parish of Spynie, Moray and Scotland. The name is Celtic meaning Top of the Tide. The Knight family of Maunu arrived in New Zealand from Scotland in 1910 and farmed in both Waipu and Maunu until early 1970s. Their farm in Austin Road with its magnificent heritage stone walls and lush green paddocks reminded them of their homeland in North East Scotland.

Kintrae became the name of the bore that supplied water to the farm and nearby homes and the lands links with early Scottish settlors is now preserved on this land. Come and experience the lifestyle in this quality development on the edge of Whangarei.
