Maintaining a Healthy Home

From July 2024, all Kāinga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) houses and registered Community Housing Provider houses must comply with the healthy homes standards. All private rentals must comply with the healthy homes standards from 1 July 2025.

Once a property meets the healthy homes standards, it needs to stay that way. Tenants can help by reporting any items that need maintenance or repair. If your heat pump or fans stop working, or you notice any drafts, or any other maintenance; let your property manager know. Tenants need to keep their rental reasonably clean and that includes heat pump filters and kitchen extraction fans. If we all do our part, we can keep your rental home healthy for the duration of your tenancy.

If you have a heat pump installed in your main living area as part of meeting the healthy homes heating standard, try setting it to ‘cool’ this summer and sleep better in a cooler house on those hot summer nights.
