But do it safely! While we all love to stay cool, we need to ensure that safety is our number one priority this summer and even when it comes to portable pools, there are things you need to know.
Portable pools are treated the same as other residential pools in so far as any portable or inflatable pool that can hold 400mm depth of water or more is required to have a physical barrier that will restrict the entry of children when closed. Any other portable pool such as paddling pools should be emptied after every use, and require constant supervision when children are at play.
Legislation involving pool safety includes portable pools and these must meet the legislative requirements including barriers, self-closing gates, and the required building consent to name just a few. If these requirements are not met, you could be in breach of The Building (Pools) Amendment Act 2016, and worse, endanger the lives and increase the risk of drowning for young children. If you’re thinking of a portable pool, do your research first. You may also need consent from your landlord or property manager for anything other than a small paddling pool, in accordance with minor changes in the Residential Tenancies Act 1986.
If you have a swimming pool at your rental premises, lucky you! Make sure to let your property manager know immediately if you have concerns about the safety of the pool area. Particularly any faulty gates or barriers and your property manager will treat this with the urgency it deserves.
All the rules and regulations can make getting a pool feel like a big task. Why not keep it simple and fun by getting a sprinkler to cool off, and enjoy summer the easy way!
